NSW:Man swerves stolen car at police officer
SYDNEY, April 10 AAP - A driver selected for a random breath test twice swerved a stolen
car at a police officer, then sped away, police say.
The 24-year-old driver was prompted to pull over by police conducting a random breath
test in the Newcastle suburb of Mayfield, just before 2.30am (AEST) on Sunday.
He allegedly responded by swerving towards a senior constable twice, narrowly missing
him before speeding away.
Police pursued the car before it crashed into a median strip and guard rail at an intersection
in Tingara Heights.
The driver was arrested and taken to Mater Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
He was later charged with offences including avoiding a police pursuit, reckless driving,
driving whilst disqualified, and failing to stop for a random breath test.
Bail was refused for him to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Monday.
