NSW: Carr warns there s =2 Sydney
NSW Treasurer MICHAEL EGAN says the agreement with Austeel commits the government to
providing land and infrastructure on a commercial investment basis.
No site has yet been chosen for the mill, which requires 150 hectares and 25 more hectares
for a port facility.
Mr EGAN says options for the mill include Kooragang Island, near Newcastle, and the
lower Hunter region.
He says the government plans to develop the site and lease it to Austeel on a long-term
commercial basis.
And the government will also assist in the development of a multi-user port and associated
infrastructure.
Mr EGAN says the government will consider establishing a state-owned corporation to
undertake its infrastructure investment.
