Honours for 'eyes and ears' of police

GOOD neighbours were honoured by Avon and Somerset police fortheir community spirit.

The Neighbourhood Watch Awards, held at the force's Portisheadheadquarters, recognised the hard work and commitment of ordinarypeople who team up to combat crime.

Five groups from the Bristol area were given awards by AssistantChief Constable Steve Otter as part of the ongoing celebrations forNeighbourhood Watch Week and the 21st birthday of the movement.

Jackie and Terry Meech, of The Lodge Neighbourhood Watch inDownend, were given the award for achievements in an urban area aftertheir group almost eliminated crime in their area.
