Fed: Defence chiefs admit vaccine side effects

Defence chiefs have admitted keeping secret a spate of serious side effects from a
controversial anthrax vaccine which was later issued to troops bound for Iraq.

So many Afghanistan-bound personnel suffered temporary adverse reactions to the vaccine
the program was suspended for two months in November 2001.

Confidential defence documents released to a newspaper under Freedom of Information
laws reveal almost three in four of the troops receiving the jab suffered side effects.
